Starbucks IAD

We were challenged with creating a cafe within a shared space for this RFP at Dulles International Airport. Our winning designed pulled inspiration from both the historic sweeping architecture of Dulles and the classic monumental architecture within Washington D.C.

Our coffee bar is treated as the monumental element of the cafe; highlighted with a glowing "domed" alcove above and a change of tile finish outlining the rich walnut bar that is anchored with a bold brass hand-off plane. Tracing the cafe walls is a flowing brass wave inlayed into the slated walnut walls bringing in inspiration from sweeping roof structure of the main terminal.

Separating the entrance to the cafe from the shared space is a custom art piece (shown as a place holder siren in rendering). The piece will be a layered artwork from a local artist highlighting the Shenandoah mountains as directed by the port.
